Overview

Drawn from the landmark reference work Mysterium Liberationis, this book highlights the core themes of systematic theology from the perspective of liberation theology. Designed for course use, Systematic Theology draws on writing of the most distinguished theologians of Latin America, reflecting on the contents of the gospel from the contest of the oppressed poor. All essential aspects of traditional theology are addressed from this primary perspective.

For those searching for an integrated, liberative approach to systematic theology or wishing to add that dimension to their courses Systematic Theology: Perspectives from Liberation Theology distills the insights and scholarship from the original architects of this new and challenging way of doing theology in a single, focused volume.

Ignacio EllacurĂa, S.J., is counted among the Latin American martyrs. On November 16, 1989, he, along with five of his brother Jesuits, their housekeeper and her daughter, were murdered at the University of Central America by Salvadorian military forces. At the time Fr. EllacurĂa was president of the University and the intended victim, however, the soldiers had been ordered to "leave no witnesses."

Jon Sobrino, S.J., a Jesuit theologian, has lived in El Salvador for over forty years. He is the author of many works, including the award-winning two volume christology, Jesus the Liberator and Christ the liberator, The Principle of Mercy, No Salvation Outside the Poor, and Witnesses to the Kingdom.
