The third volume in this series treats teachings of John of the Cross, the sixteenth-century Carmelite saint and mystic, and author of such classics as The Dark Night of the Soul and The Ascent of Mount Carmel.

James Finley, a psychotherapist and renowned spiritual director, is the author of The Healing Path: A Memoir and an Invitation. His other books include Merton’s Palace of Nowhere (drawing on his experience as a novice of Thomas Merton at the Trappist Abbey of Gethsemani), Christian Meditation: Experiencing the Presence of God, and two previous volumes in this series: Thomas Merton and Teresa of Avila He is part of the Core Faculty of the Center for Action and Contemplation.

Kirsten Oates is a spiritual director who works with the Center for Action and Contemplation, and is the host and producer of Finley’s Turning to the Mystics podcast.
