Bernd Kappes, known for his work in “Theological Zoology,” challenges traditional religious views of human superiority and dominion. Urging a shift towards more ethical and sustainable practices in animal treatment, he provides a theological and ethical consideration of animals as fellow creatures of God. Emphasizing intrinsic value and dignity of animals, Kappes advocates for compassionate and respectful relationship between humans and animals.

Bernd Kappes is an ordained minister, professor, and lecturer. Currently he is acting director of the Evangelical Academy Hofgeismar and board member of the Institut für Theologische Zoologie. He studied theology and political science in Heidelberg, San Salvador, Berlin, and Marburg. He does international human rights work with FIAN in Honduras and is also a board advisor at Bread for the World.
