⭐Advance Praise and Reviews⭐

“What a vitally important book! By turns lyrical, fierce, and ultimately inspiring, it sheds light on U.S. eating practices with deep spiritual insight. Far from an in-your-face rant, its peaceable tone opens a door that invites the reader to enter and be persuaded while its critique comes wrapped with a pluralism of alternatives. Warning: read it and be changed the next time you sit down to eat.” –Elizabeth A. Johnson, distinguished professor emerita, Fordham University

“In Beyond Factory Farming, theologian James Robinson writes to head, heart, and spirit with clarity and grace. His lyrical prose and moral depth invite readers not only to eat differently, but to recover our place within a living cosmos. This is no abstract appeal, but a concrete welcome into the world-remaking practices already being lived by attentive communities.” –Amanda W. Daloisio, co-managing editor, The Catholic Worker

How can our meals reroot us in the soils of creation? How can our foodways uproot and replace the desecrating system of factory farming? The contemplative-prophetic approach to food that is found in these pages weaves together religious, scientific, and culinary wisdom for our relationships with food, meals, and each other.

James Robinson directs the Deignan Institute for Earth and Spirit, Iona University, where he serves as a clinical lecturer in religious studies. He received the university's Catherine McCabe Award for Innovation and Excellence in Teaching in 2023. Jim is a GreenFaith Fellow and is actively involved in a number of lay Catholic communities committed to embodying ecology and social justice, including Agape Community, Hardwick, MA, Benincasa Community, Guilford, CT, and Maryhouse Catholic Worker, New York City.
