Overview

"Here is a theological reflection-cum-commentary on the book of Job by the founder of liberation theology. Seeking fruitful ways to talk about God from the perspective of innocent suffering (a concern grounded in commitment to the poor of Latin America), Gutierrez focuses on two types of language Job discovers: that of prophecy , as he generalizes beyond his own plight to the suffering of others, and that of contemplation , as he responds to the voice in the whirlwind. Extremely well done. "--From Library Journal, Copyright 1987 Reed Business Information, Inc.

One of this century’s most eminent theologians addresses the eternal questions of the relationship of good and evil, linking the story of Job to the lives of the poor and oppressed of our world.

Gustavo Gutierrez, a native of Lima Peru, was educated in Lima, Chile, and Europe and was ordained in 1959. In his work, Gutierrez’s theological training is joined with experience of living and working among the poor of Rimac, a Lima slum, where he also founded and directs the Bartolome de Las Casas Center. His books include the classic A Theology of Liberation, The God of Life, The Power of the Poor in History, We Drink from Our Wells, The Truth Shall Make You Free, and Las Casas.
