First Place - Books on Pope Francis
To mark the tenth anniversary of Pope Francis’s pontificate, here is a helpful and reader-friendly digest of ten of his most important documents.
"The official documents of the Church, when couched in technical language, are often beyond the easy comprehension of those unschooled in theology, philosophy and canon law. For them these documents are like a sealed book with no one to break open the seals for them. And so James Kroeger, MM, has done a great service to the common reader, as he had done before in earlier books of a similar nature, for he has broken the seals of incomprehension for them, so that now they can have more easy access to the official teaching of the Magisterium in its sometimes cumbersome documents." - Peter Lobo, Dominican Ashram Vol 6, Issue 2
“These succinct popularizations introduce us to the engaging vision of Pope Francis in summary form. . . . Hopefully, as you peruse these materials, you will discover that they are ‘appetizers’ for the full writings of Pope Francis. May you also discover the vibrant ‘missionary spirit’ of Pope Francis: ‘Let us be realists, but without losing our joy, our boldness and our hope-filled commitment.’”—From the Foreword by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle
“James Kroeger provides a wonderful avenue for ‘Catholics in the pews’ (and others) to access the inspiring thought and vision of Pope Francis. In his synthesis of ten major documents, Kroeger has faithfully captured the main points and phrases in this shortened and accessible format. We thank him for opening up the treasure of Pope Francis for a broader audience.”—Roger Schroeder, SVD, Catholic Theological Union, Chicago
