Overview
MORAL LEADERSHIP
Integrity, Courage, Imagination
Robert Michael Franklin
With a New Preface by the Author

“There is no one more adept at stimulating critical conversations about pressing issues than Robert Franklin. His ideas and the ideals to which he invites the reader on moral leadership represent a clarion call for the times on a topic needed perhaps now more than ever.”Michael E. Hill, President, Chautauqua Institution

“A wise and visionary reflection on the constituent elements of moral leadership in our polarized times. Robert Franklin is a towering figure in higher education who exemplifies so much of the integrity, courage, and imagination he analyzes. He stands in the great tradition of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Benjamin Mays! And we either heed his words or we perish!”—Cornel West, Union Theological Seminary, NYC

Addressing the crises in American public life—whether in a local community, an educational institution, or a global organization—calls for genuine moral leadership, anchored in intellectual and ethical integrity, a vision of and commitment to the public good, and personal investment in transformative community.

Drawing on a lifetime of witnessing, emulating, and nurturing leaders, Robert Michael Franklin proposes a model for such leadership at every level of public life. Moral Leadership offers ways in which readers in whatever context can discover and foster those qualities in themselves, and become the change they want to see.

Robert Michael Franklin, president emeritus of Morehouse College, Atlanta, is former Director of the Interfaith Religion Department at the Chautauqua Institution as well as former Program Officer in Human Rights and Social Justice at the Ford Foundation. Dr. Franklin is currently James T. and Berta R. Laney Professor in Moral Leadership at Emory University. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, an M.Div. from Harvard Divinity School, and a B.A. from Morehouse College. He has served on White House committees under three U.S. presidents. His books include Crisis in the Village: Restoring Hope n African American Communities.
