Overview

“To this day, this is the most comprehensive review of the wide range of Latin[x] theologies in the United States, their history, and their varying contexts and contributions.”— Justo L. González, author, Acts: Gospel of the Spirit

Now thoroughly revised, this basic introduction describes both Protestant and Catholic traditions, including the fundamental principles underlying the ways Hispanics approach theology. Showing how their outlook has been shaped by historical and cultural movements including colonialism and Christian mission, this book provides the ideal introduction to a vibrant and distinctive way of doing theology.

Edwin David Aponte is executive director of the Louisville Institute and research professor of religion and culture at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He is author of ¡Santo! Varieties of Latino/a Spirituality (Orbis).

Miguel A. De La Torre is professor of social ethics and Latinx studies at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, CO. A past president of the Society of Christian Ethics, he has authored many books including Trails of Hope and Terror: Testimonies on Immigration and Doing Christian Ethics from the Margins (both Orbis).
