Overview

For early Christians “church” – from a world meaning “called out” – was not simply a Sunday morning battery charge for Monday morning’s return to empire, but the basis for a complete society grounded in the presence of the Risen Jesus. Taking up where Albert Nolan left off, in his classic Jesus Before Christianity, Wes Howard-Brook shows how the “church before Christianity” can inspire and challenge a new awakening among Christians today.

Wes Howard-Brook teaches at Seattle University’s School of Theology and Ministry and is a faculty member of the SALT (Scripture And Leadership Training) adult biblical education program run by Seattle University. He is the co-author of Unveiling Empire: Reading Revelation Then and Now and the author of Becoming Children of God: John’s Gospel and Radical Discipleship, and John’s Gospel and the Renewal of the Church. He writes regularly for magazines such as The Other Side, Sojourners and Living Pulpit.
