Overview
"This fabulous book examines biblical stories that often go unnoticed, honing in on the mission of God and its connection with contemporary issues. The book's cross-cultural engagement stretches across multivalent boundaries and divergent spheres. This volume will come in handy for pastoral theologians and ministers working in intercultural settings." --vanThanh Nguyen, SVD, author, Stories of Early Christianity: Creative Retellings of Faith and History

"Through a hermeneutics of hospitality that highlights openness, graciousness, and exchange, Breaking through the Boundaries explores biblical narratives that offer models of God working through 'outsiders' to further God's mission. An important study for intercultural and interfaith encounters in today's fraught society." --Gale A. Yee, editor, The Hebrew Bible: Feminist and Intersectional Perspectives

"The authors have combined their biblical and ancient Near Eastern expertise with their varied personal backgrounds and experience to produce a highly readable and engaging exploration of easily neglected dimensions of familiar biblical narratives. On issues such as migration, hospitality, gender, the outsider, and ethnicity, they expose the missionally subversive dimensions of God's revelation in Scripture. It is heartening and enriching to encounter such fertile missional exegesis and application of biblical texts." --Christopher J. H. Wright, author, The Mission of God

In this innovative work, four experienced missiologists draw upon biblical narratives to highlight key roles played by those outside established Jewish/Christian religious tradition in the service of Gods mission. The authors apply the missiological insights gleaned from the biblical accounts to contemporary issues such as global migration crises and interreligious strife.

An important contribution to Christian mission theory and praxis for the 21st century, Breaking through the Boundaries is a valuable text for students, churches, and missionary leaders.
