Go Preach!
By: Brian K. Blount
Overview
Go Preach! connects the apocalyptic message of Mark's Gospel to principles and programs of socio-cultural transformation in the life of the Black church today. Brian Blount begins his study of Mark by examining the social significance of Jesus' proclamation of the coming Kingdom of God. Through Jesus, God's future power broke through to the human present. This experience of the Kingdom in turn empowered the disciples of "Go, preach" the Kingdom message in word and dead, to finish the story that Mark's narration of Jesus's story began.
Comparing the situation of the Black church today to that in which Mark's gospel arose, Blount explores the implications of apocalyptic theology for the church's pastoral mission today. He demonstrates the value of a sociolinguistic approach to the scripture, both in interpreting the text in its original context, and unpacking its meaning for us today
An ordained Presbyterian minister, Brian K. Blount is president and professor of New Testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond, Virginia and Charlotte, North Carolina. He served as the Dearborn Professor of New Testament Interpretation at Princeton Theological Seminary. His other books include Invasion of the Dead: Preaching the Resurrection and Revelation: A Commentary.
