Born in Brazil in 1938, Leonardo Boff received a doctorate in theology and philosophy from the University of Munich, Germany in 1970. For the next 20 years he served as professor of theology at the Jesuit Institute for Philosophy and Theology in Petrôpolis, Brazil. He is now Emeritus Professor of Ethics, Philosophy of Religion and Ecology, State University of Rio de Janeiro. Boff is also a member of the international Earth Charter Initiative which “seeks to inspire in all people a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility for the well-being of the whole human family, the greater community of life, and future generations.”
One of the founders of liberation theology, Boff is author of over 70 books including:
