Overview

Reviews three basic models of theology in Western Christianity: moral, mystical, pastoral.

From the works of Tertullian, Clement of Alexandria, and Origen and Irenaeus of Lyon come the models of moral theology, metaphysical theology, and pastoral theology. This categorization helps students understand the validity and application of all three models in the study of Christian theology today. In this edition, the author has updated the discussion of each model to include basic contemporary issues and concerns.

Justo L. Gonzalez is a Cuban-American Methodist historian, theologian and the youngest person to be awarded the historical theology doctorate at Yale University. Now retired he has lectured at numerous seminaries and universities. Dr. Gonzalez is the author of the highly acclaimed History of Christian Thought. His other books include Acts: The Gospel of the Spirit.
